Preparing your own income tax return can be a task that leaves you with more questions than answers. According to a study released by the US Government's General Accounting Office last year, most taxpayers (77% of 71 million taxpayers) believe they benefited from using a professional tax preparer.

Whether we like it or not, today's tax laws are so complicated that filing a relatively simple return can be confusing and stressful. It is just too easy to overlook deductions and credits to which you are entitled. A computer software program is no substitute for the assistance of an experienced tax professional.

I offer professional preparation of all federal, state, and local tax returns at competitive, affordable rates. My goal is always to provide you with the best value for the fee charged rather than simply claiming to be "the cheapest." In addition, home appointments are almost always available.

Dealing with a tax professional during "tax season" can be almost as daunting as facing an IRS audit. Some preparers neglect to give each client sufficient attention or spend the few extra minutes required to address all the issues relevant to return preparation. My pledge to clients is to do all of the following:
  • treat everyone respectfully and courteously and return phone calls promptly
  • devote sufficient time and attention to client interviews so as to increase the likelihood that all return issues are identified and addressed properly
  • respond to client needs year-round

Return preparation is not limited to filling out forms. As part of the process, I provide the client with a general "financial checkup". If I have any suggestions that might improve your tax or financial situation, I will suggest them to you. Feel free to raise questions about finances or to call at any time during the year with tax related questions dealing with issues such as home purchase or refinancing or retirement (TDA) contributions. This service is included as part of the return preparation fee.

Occasionally, a client will receive a notice from the IRS.  Responding to letters from the IRS is part of the tax preparation process.  Usually, a brief discussion with the client will enable both of us to identify the issue(s) raised by the IRS and to respond accordingly. I urge my clients to contact me any time they receive an inquiry from the IRS or other taxing authority. I will often draft a response to the notice on behalf of the client. I rarely charge a client an additional fee for this service.

In addition, special attention is given to:

  • teacher and teacher-retiree returns
  • tax treaty issues of foreign nationals working in the US
  • taxpayers with unfiled returns for prior years
  • addressing IRS letters and audit issues

I provide a full range of tax services. I will work with you year-round if necessary in order to minimize your total tax burden.
